It occurs to me that if I approach art as a hobby, rather than as a profession, then I have the luxury of being able to take as long as I want on a project; I can pretend that it is the last thing I will ever be able to write, and so it had better count, and I had better put every bit of my ability into all the details. I think I like that. In fact I think I like it so much that I am not sure I would be willing to actually work professionally as an artist under any other terms.
